Groupage on the Turkic republics lane
The lane from Türkiye (Turkey) to the Turkic republics works differently from the European ones: it runs for thousands of kilometres and crosses several transit countries. Over that distance, hiring a whole truck for a few pallets rarely makes sense. With groupage (LTL), your cargo is collected in and around İzmir and consolidated with other loads bound for the same country or for cities on the same route.
The order of the drops matters. The TIR Convention limits a single TIR transport to four customs offices of departure and destination in total, so when a trailer is split between cities such as Almaty and Bishkek we plan the customs points from the outset. The individual steps are covered on our groupage transport page.
Full loads and intermodal options
For loads that fill the trailer, are heavy or must meet a fixed date we run full-truckload transport. On long lanes, the advantage of a full truck is that the cargo travels from origin to destination without transhipment, and only your paperwork is processed at the transit borders. For solutions that use the Caspian ferry or a rail leg, we also look at intermodal transport.

On this lane the route depends as much on the season and current transit conditions as on the destination. There are three main options:
- By road via Georgia: into Georgia through border gates such as Sarp or Türkgözü, then on to Azerbaijan.
- The Middle Corridor: from Azerbaijan across the Caspian Sea by ferry to Aktau or Kuryk in Kazakhstan, or to Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan.
- Via Iran: into Iran through gates such as Gürbulak or Kapıköy, then through Turkmenistan to Central Asia, or via Astara to Azerbaijan.
We agree the right option with you at the quote stage, based on conditions at the time.
Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is the closest country on the lane. Loads usually travel through Georgia and enter at the Red Bridge crossing for Baku, Ganja and Sumgait; depending on conditions, the Astara route through Iran is an alternative. Nakhchivan is reached directly through the Dilucu border gate. Türkiye and Azerbaijan have a preferential trade agreement covering certain products, so we check whether your goods qualify and which origin document they need before loading.
Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is the Middle Corridor’s gateway on the Caspian: ferries from Baku (Alat) carry trucks to the ports of Aktau or Kuryk, and the cargo continues to Almaty, Astana or Shymkent. Kazakhstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), so imports follow the union’s common customs tariff and technical regulations, and many product groups need EAC conformity documents. Given the country’s size, the destination city is one of the biggest factors in overall transit time.
Uzbekistan
None of Uzbekistan’s neighbours has access to the open sea, which makes it one of the world’s two doubly landlocked countries: every route to it crosses at least two transit countries. Cargo for Tashkent, Samarkand or Bukhara can travel across the Caspian and through Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan, or overland via Iran and Turkmenistan. Driver and vehicle permits for transit through Turkmenistan have to be arranged in advance; we confirm the best route for current conditions in our quote.
Kyrgyzstan
Freight for Kyrgyzstan usually travels through Kazakhstan, reaching Bishkek from the Almaty side, so it can be consolidated with Kazakhstan-bound cargo. Kyrgyzstan is also an EAEU member, and its customs and conformity rules largely match Kazakhstan’s. For southern cities such as Osh, we factor winter conditions on the mountain passes into the plan.
Documents and customs on the Turkic republics lane
- Core documents: commercial invoice, packing list, CMR and export declaration.
- Transit: a TIR carnet plus any passage documents the transit countries require; vehicle permits are arranged by the carrier.
- Origin: a certificate of origin endorsed by a chamber of commerce and, for goods covered by the Türkiye–Azerbaijan preferential agreement, the relevant origin document.
- Conformity: EAC certificates or declarations of conformity under EAEU technical regulations for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; national conformity documents for certain product groups in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
For the declaration side of TIR, origin and conformity paperwork, see our customs clearance service.
Why Multitransport?
- Routes compared, not assumed: we weigh the Georgia, Middle Corridor and Iran options against your cargo, the season and current border conditions.
- One contact for a long lane: from loading in İzmir to delivery at destination, the move is followed from a single operations desk.
- Documents planned early: the TIR carnet, origin and EAC paperwork is planned before loading; on a long lane one missing document can cause delays at more than one border, so we deal with it up front.
- A wider network: beyond this lane, scheduled services to 54 countries in 8 regions plus agency support.
